About UK refugees and asylum seekers: Statistics
Statistics change frequently, but trends change slowly. Numbers of asylum seekers have steadily risen over the past few years, but the number claiming asylum in the UK is still small, and less than half what it was at its peak of 82,000 in 2004. The Home Office publishes quarterly asylum statistics about three months in arrears. You can find them, if you look hard enough, on the government website under statistics. The most recent immigration statistics should be the first thing you see, but you are most likely to want Asylum and Resettlement.
An easier, quicker and recommended option is to go to the Refugee Council website, where they have a concise and easily understandable quarterly update.
