How Can You Help? Persecuted Christians and New Converts
There are many reasons for seeking asylum in the UK. One of the reasons recognised in the 1951 UN Convention on Refugees is Religious Persecution. Across the world today there is a great deal of religious persecution, and although it rarely makes the news, most of it is targeting Christians. It is no surprise, then, to find Christians claiming asylum in the UK on that basis. There are a number of ways in which they can be helped.
At the same time there are large numbers of asylum seekers coming to Christ, mainly from Muslim countries where the implementation of Sharia law has led to widespread disillusionment with Islam. Churches are suddenly finding they have a welcome but challenging problem, with groups of foreigners with limited English eager to learn about Christianity.
